Not many countries in the
African continent has hosted the Formula One Grand prix races when
compared to other continents. There could be many reasons such as
popularity , facilities , economic conditions and more importantly Bernie
Ecclestone's blessings. Morocco and South Africa are the only two
countries that has hosted Formula One Grand prix races. The last
Formula One Grand prix held in the African continent was in South
Africa in 1993 at the Kyalami Circuit. South Africa has hosted 22
Formula One Grand prix races starting from 1962 till 1993. Between
this period around 8 years there were no races due to war , apartheid.
In 1992 South African post
issued stamps on Motor Sports and one of the stamp luckily is on Formula One.
The stamp features the image of Formula One cars racing around the
track.
As Formula One goes to new
places every year especially to Asia , Europe the possibility of
having another race in the African continent might be a distant
reality.
